Libreboot and Replicant Workshops
by Cornel-Florentin Dimitriu 04 Jul '18

04 Jul '18

Hello, I was in Metalab at the beginning of June, I've talked to some people, and even held an ad-hoc presentation :-) Thanks for the warm welcome! Back then, I presented what Technoethical does - mainly replacing the proprietary BIOS on compatible ThinkPad laptops with Libreboot, and installing Replicant on compatible Samsung phones, and how through this we have found a way to earn a living while still working on libre technologies. See more info here about the projects we use: https://libreboot.org/ https://replicant.us/ Related to this, we want to promote libre software and compatible hardware more, and to collaborate with people in hackerspaces and event organizers, to deliver workshops there. Since I come regularly (a few times a year) to Vienna, we can organize Libreboot (Coreboot) and Replicant workshops if there are interested people. I can give more details about what the workshop will consist of, if you need it, but mainly it's about: - for laptops, and Libreboot - flashing the chip where the BIOS is stored, using an external SPI programmer and a clip (or soldered wires), - for phones, and Replicant - flashing a recovery image and installing a system zip, using a micro USB cable, and then connecting to Internet with an external WiFi adapter that has libre driver+firmware. I will be in Vienna again at the beginning of July, which is quite soon, so I'm waiting for feedback, to see how big the interest is, then we can set up a date for it. Thank you again for welcoming me! It was the second time I was in Metalab (the first time I was two years ago), and by the projects, devices around, and the overall feeling, it seemed like the way I would've done it, so I can say I felt quite like home. :-) Have a good week, and great ideas and projects ahead! -- Florentin Libre technology supporter Tech enthusiast @ Technoethical https://technoethical.com

Fwd: [intern] RetroSession today: have you got SCSI?
by Hetti 29 Jun '18

Hey, Today is RetroSession again in the Metalab! Come and join! Maybe you have SCSI cables and Adapters? Could you bring it with you? Heute ist RetroSession wieder im Metalab! Komm vorbei und mach mit! Vielleich hast du SCSI Kabel und Adapter? Kannst du es mitbringen? Cheers, Hetti -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: [intern] RetroSession today: have you got SCSI? Date: Fri, 29 Jun 2018 10:31:46 +0200 From: Jay Vaughan <ibisum(a)gmail.com> Reply-To: Interne Metalab Liste (members only) <intern(a)lists.metalab.at> To: intern(a)lists.metalab.at Hi, Today we’ll have another RetroSession at Metalab, in the afternoon: https://metalab.at/wiki/RetroSessions <https://metalab.at/wiki/RetroSessions> The goal for todays session: boot up an Amstrad CPC628 with the new M4 board. Continuing our effort to bring 8-bit machines into the 21st Century, we will be booting up an Amstrad CPC6128 machine, fitted with the new M4 board which gives the machine access to gigabytes of storage, the Internet over Wifi, and a few other neat things too .. http://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/M4_Board <http://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/M4_Board> If you’re interested in the rejuvenation and re-purposing of older machines, perhaps systems that were considered “useless” not too long ago, then the RetroSession is for you! We are avidly bringing these old machines into the 21st Century. On that note - we could USE YOUR HELP! One of our participants has an extensive collection of Amiga materials saved on SCSI disks .. we need to back it all up! Trouble is, we don’t have all the SCSI cables we would need to do this - perhaps you have a collection of SCSI cables and adapters you could bring to the RetroSession? Please do - we’re desperately trying to get a working, modern rig set up to do full disk imaging over SCSI .. but we don’t have the adapters we need. See you at Metalab, around 16:30 today! j.

Huawei E5186s 22a - PW flashen via serial oder weghauen?
by Johannes Stolba IT-SOLUTIONS WIEN 25 Jun '18

25 Jun '18

Hi Leute, Hab hier folgendes Problem. LG J
