Jumio / HTML/CSS/Javascript
by thomas willomitzer 11 Okt '11

11 Okt '11

Dear Metalab, Sorry to bother you with a boring skill request ... I'm currently looking for a somebody who's skilled in HTML/CSS/Javascript to help us out at Jumio.com (working in Vienna or Linz). Since most members of this list are probably not interested in a "normal" job I'd like to add: It's quite an exciting project and there are a lot of areas that are probably of interest for people on this list. So getting into Jumio (pls Google) opens a window into "advanced" image processing in C++ and AS3 if HTML/CSS isn't the only area you are interested in! Also - you will be working along with the founders of Jajah, Last.FM and Facebook. Skills like Java and Sysops are always welcome of course! Thanks Thomas CTO Jumio <http://www.xing.com/profile/Thomas_Willomitzer> P.S. I'd also like to mention that Jumio is in an early startup phase and Share Options are allocated generously - next to salary of course.

Biohacking news
by Michael Kohl 11 Okt '11

11 Okt '11

Hey all, just a little mail to let you know that I'm still active on the Biohacking front, just not in a very visible way at the moment. *) Less than 2 weeks to our excursion to the Open Lab, yeah! https://metalab.at/wiki/Vienna_Open_Lab_excursion *) Yesterday I met Denisa Kera at the Metalab, who had a lot of interesting input and some good contacts. I updated the wiki page with the projects she made me discover: https://metalab.at/wiki/Biohacking *) As a next step I'd like to get an interesting speaker for a Metaday or something, Howy Jacobs would be an interesting one (scientist of the year in Finland): http://www.uta.fi/imt/finmit/howylab/personnel/howy.php Denisa told me there also might be interesting people in Prague and Germany, I'm waiting for her to send me the names/contacts. *) There's also a guy who tries to get a Biohacking/DIYbio group started in a Finnish hacker space, I'm in touch with him and we'll probably use the Hackerspaces wiki to document our efforts. Hack on, Michi

Suche Garage
by Georg Lippitsch 11 Okt '11

11 Okt '11

Hi! Ich möchte gern mein Auto vorübergehend abmelden, und in dieser Zeit irgendwo außerhalb von Wien in einer Garage unterstellen. Weiß da wer was günstiges?

A highly compressed guide to the way the media works. by Dave Dempsey 2011-10-14, 19:00 at the Metalab Rathausstraße 6, 1010 Vienna Part 1. What is news, and what's a journalist have to do with it. Part 2. Journalistic methods, The good, The Bad and The Really Fun. Part 3. Not all Journalists are evil. A lot of them just don't know any better. Part 4. Public Relations for asocial types. The care and feeding of your pet journalist. Part 5. It's not rocket Science. Make your own Media, and bring the news to its knees. We will take a look at best case, worst case, and lower case scenarios of dealing with the media. As a consumer, creator and subject of the news. Classic reporting of tech issues can be a terrible experience for those who know better, and I would like to help you understand why, and what you can do about it. Power point may be involved.
