Hi Jaume,
We have some talks on 31.8 / 1.9. http://metalab.at/wiki/WirNennenEs30
one is by me on topic "semantic desktop", others by Grenzfurthner and Magnus Wurzer, perhaps more. two ideas, independent of each other:
Sound interesting, I use to research about those issues too, so I'll join anyway the discussion :-)
A: are you interested in recording one of them, to test the equipment?
record them, store, host them longer (or upload on google|youtube video)
mmm, I'm not a video producer, I really use to work with people that know about it. I have no cameras. I work in the streaming side only. So, for the stable plato in metalab, the first is setup the streambox, and afterwards, we can seat and thing about the possibilities for a good production and other people participation.
ok, so recording is out of question for now.
B: I have some friends in Kaiserslautern, who may want to follow the event via video-stream, but we had only mediocre results so far using Skype or other video-conferencing tools to connect parties, is icecast a solution here?
No, Icecast (http://icecast.org) is an streaming server. People broadcast againts icecast server, and listeners connects to that server. Nothing about video conferencing (2 ways communication), this is totally another issue
ok, but at least we have some connection. we could enhance a back-link using chat or something else
this would mean live-streaming, a different issue that recording, but also interesting in this setup.
(connecting events could look like this, example from roböxotica): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yg5LtH6vezE
Yes this video looks a biy messy, I'm talking about something like this:
that looks better. if we cast the talks by Grenz, Magnus and me, we may even have some listeners ;-) so, I am in Vienna only briefly before the event, we should organize this via e-mail and the wikipage, could you add some note about this on the wiki page? "we plan to do an icecast stream using software X which requires client Y, probably on network Z. nothing decided yet, may work or not.... etc" http://metalab.at/wiki/WirNennenEs30 I would start it small and then increase - so first goal would be to stream one of the talks, and then hope to stream more. As my talk is first, we should try that. if it works and doesn't need much attention, we could stream the rest also. best Leo

i think a simple IP Webcam is better,
Better? mmm, in my opinion is radically not better. The webcam streams is that kind of streams that nobody see because of the bad quality. From my experience, perople don't follow to much video streams coz molst of them are very bad video quality, bad lights in the stage and impossible to understand the audio. What I'm porposing is not to do stream, this is technically, really easy. What I propose i to do a channel, and that requires audience. People folow streams if they are sexy en off, in quality of contents, and in quality of the emission (this is just my experience last years)

cheaper and needs less energergy than a PC ;)

Hi all, about the idea to do regular video transmissions from metalab http://metalab.at/wiki/MetalabTV
To start it is needed a computer, let's call it, streambox. I asked some people if there is any computer available in metalab for this. The main work that the computer should do is live encoding using ffmpeg2theora or Puredata patches. I'm not sure at this moment about minimal requeriments for the streambox, but maybe could be a 2,4 Ghz CPU / 512 RAM
That's all by the moment
