Hello, So I've talked to Hetti a few hours ago (I am in Metalab right now, but I'm leaving soon), and I've decided to have the workshop on Tuesday, the 10th of July, at 19:00. He said that there are two or three more people interested in the workshop, so 4-5 people by now. Still, I'll be in Metalab on the 9th as well, during the evening, even if there is also Repair Day. This would allow meeting with anyone interested that cannot come on Tuesday, or that wants to talk to me separately about Libreboot, Replicant, libre hardware design, libre software or libre technology in general. So, if someone knows how the event can be added to the calendar, please tell me / do it. Thank you! And, see you then! Florentin On 03.07.2018 15:27, Cornel-Florentin Dimitriu wrote:
Hi,
Thank you Hetti, for forwarding my announcement! Have people from these other lists replied?
For now, only two people have confirmed that are interested (they wrote directly to us, because they knew us from before).
Is there anyone else interested in this Libreboot and Replicant installation workshop, organized by Technoethical and hosted by Metalab?
I think the right day for the workshop is 10th of July. What do you think?
I'll arrive in Vienna tomorrow (Wednesday, 4th of July) afternoon, and leave the next Wednesday (11th of July).
I think I'll also come tomorrow to Metalab, because I see there are some meetings in the calendar, and maybe we can talk a bit more about the workshop, and invite / gather more people ... :-) I can only stay until 7:00 PM.
Starting 5th of July until the 8th I'll be outside Vienna, and I'll be back on the 9th.
I see that there is Repair Day on the 9th, so perhaps it's a good idea to have the Technoethical workshop on Tuesday (10th of July).
Thank you, and see you soon! Florentin

Hi Dimitriu!
thanks for your great email. I will forward your email to our intern List and the list of the chaos computer club Wien and ask if there also people interested for the workshop.
I think there is for sure some demand by a group of people for such a workshop!
All the best, Hetti

Hello,
I was in Metalab at the beginning of June, I've talked to some people, and even held an ad-hoc presentation :-) Thanks for the warm welcome!
Back then, I presented what Technoethical does - mainly replacing the proprietary BIOS on compatible ThinkPad laptops with Libreboot, and installing Replicant on compatible Samsung phones, and how through this we have found a way to earn a living while still working on libre technologies.
See more info here about the projects we use:
Related to this, we want to promote libre software and compatible hardware more, and to collaborate with people in hackerspaces and event organizers, to deliver workshops there.
Since I come regularly (a few times a year) to Vienna, we can organize Libreboot (Coreboot) and Replicant workshops if there are interested people.
I can give more details about what the workshop will consist of, if you need it, but mainly it's about:
- for laptops, and Libreboot - flashing the chip where the BIOS is stored, using an external SPI programmer and a clip (or soldered wires),
- for phones, and Replicant - flashing a recovery image and installing a system zip, using a micro USB cable, and then connecting to Internet with an external WiFi adapter that has libre driver+firmware.
I will be in Vienna again at the beginning of July, which is quite soon, so I'm waiting for feedback, to see how big the interest is, then we can set up a date for it.
Thank you again for welcoming me! It was the second time I was in Metalab (the first time I was two years ago), and by the projects, devices around, and the overall feeling, it seemed like the way I would've done it, so I can say I felt quite like home. :-)
Have a good week, and great ideas and projects ahead!
