Anyone interested in retro computing?
Greetings, please apologize me I can't speak German yet. Is there anyone interested in retro computing who would fancy a chat and a beer? I'd love to build a group and maybe organize something (coding sessions, games tournaments, exhibitions.... I don't know). Kind Regards, Carlo -- Carlo Ascani [https://tilde.club/~carloratm](https://tilde.club/~carloratm/) Sent with [Proton Mail](https://proton.me/) secure email.
Absolutely! I am still coding for my C64 every now and then and love it. There's a few more people who are into retro computing in and around the Metalab as well. Looking forward to have said beer with you :) Greetings, H. On 11/7/22 10:26 PM, Carlo Ascani via Metalab wrote:

YES!!!! But I am currently living in London. (even though I am originally from São Paulo, Brazil) PS: I also contribute to MAME source-code from time to time PS2: Check this out: https://forum.fiozera.com.br/t/resgate-historico-do-computador-patinho-feio-... +1 I’m no longer in Vienna though, but Toronto. I’m more of an Amiga kind of guy but have a C64 squirrelled away somewhere. Felipe!! Long Time... -Marius

Hey, thank you for the responses! Sounds cool! I don't know how Metalab works, should we arrange a day for a meet? I’m a huge retro nerd.
I have a collection of over 30 machines and have kept every single machine I’ve ever owned or coded for, since 1983, from the Oric-1 to the SGI Indy to a BeBox and beyond. I also have a small fleet of the modern FPGA-based retro exploration platforms, such as the ZXUNO2VGA and Amiga 500 systems.
We used to have retro- sessions at Metalab a few years back, and those were quite fruitful - there is a small but enthusiastic crowd of folks in the Metalab universe who are keen on retro. Harald, who has already introduced himself, has impressed us all with his C64 assembly projects and there are a few other guys who know their way around the old CPU’s, too.
We have also had a few sessions to play with the results from the yearly “10-LINE BASIC” competition, which my favorite machine (Oric!) has won for the last two years. Because it’s awesome. :) Check that out if you haven’t already .. I’m personally warming up my own entry for next year, so watch out!
I’m trying to get my collection in a location where it can be opened up for public access, so the machines are on and usable in full battlestation modes. I dream of having retro- computing sessions for the current and also older generation of programmers/hackers to get involved in… surprisingly enough, old machines still have a lot to teach us.
I have a small project going on elsewhere with my teenage son and his friend, involving the revival of a Commodore PC20-II, found in an attic, and which is still infected with one of the very first .COM TSR viruses. It also has DEBUG.COM onboard, so we are playing a game of defeating the virus, isolating it and triaging the system. This has been very rewarding - it’s extraordinarily empowering for a teenage kid to have access to this sort of thing and learn how computers work. The boys have fully embraced the project, and even have schematics out now to find issues with the power supply so we can continue to play with the virus.
If there’s interest I’d be happy to boot up retro- sessions at Metalab again.

A few years ago Jay tried to organize a regular Retro meeting but it faded away unfortunately. I'm very interested but probably could only join sporadically due to the fact that I need a good hour's drive to come to the metalab. Still - go for it! Aha! So, I am officially calling for a meet where we can chat about a regular (monthly?) retro meetup. Who's in?
