Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." - Arthur C. I don't understand german, but I understand somebody is organizing an EagleCAD workhop at Metalab. I'd like to suggest that you focus on the free software tools like KiCAD and gEDA. I think that hackerspaces should be places where people value knowledge and the ability to tinker with things, including their tools. If the tool has a bug or lacks a feature, it can be a good oportunity for hackers to improve the tool. It is fun and it is useful. You should consider it. For the benefit of society :-) Using EagleCAD only delays these potential improvements in the libre tools. Unfortunately, both gEDA and KiCAD use technologies which are not really available on the Mac OS X platform (GTK and WxWidgets respectively). Although it's technically possible to get both of them to run, the user experience sucks, kind of like what Eagle used to do until they rewrote it a few years back. Apart from that, I wholeheartedly agree :) -Marius

As a data point, I used WxWidgets + Python to build a desktop app for Mac/Linux/Win last year, and was pretty pleased with the look & feel. I seem to recall distributing the Mac build as a single file with no dependencies, although I eventually dropped support for that platform because of PortAudio instability. Viva la cross-platform GUI.
