Hello guys/girls, we're going to plan a grilling picnic openair party for sunday... location: somewhere on the grass (i'm not from wien so i don't know exactly a nice location) the plan is to go in a nice place outside the city, in an open green space bringing some food and alcool stuff to cook and drink together and to enjoy a really nice sunny easter day i know many people is coming back home for easter so let's see who will still be in the city and wanna join this idea... location suggestions are accepted, greetZ Ivan
There are places where you are officially allowed to grill on the Donauinsel. But you have to pre-order them (they recommend pre-ordering at least 4 weeks in advance). s). I only costs € 10,- and you can have a good time there (been there with my department at work last summer) When you make a reservation they send you a payment form by snail mail, and when they got the money they send you the confirmation. AFAIK grilling in public is not generally allowed, but maybe there are places where you are definitely allowed to, or where at least no one cares (e.g. Lobau, etc.) Any Ideas? lg nomike aka Michael Postmann On Thu, Apr 9, 2009 at 9:53 PM, Gloin <gudrun0@gmail.com> wrote:

too bad i wont be here on the weekend check out himmelhofwiese U4->hütteldorf when you walk out of trhe station thre is a bridge over the wienfluss walk right over the bridge straight ahead always heading to the "mountain" walk up some streets then comes a looooong stairway along a wall (2 meters high and very very long) this wall is built around the lainzer tiergarten. at the end you will come out at a super beautiful place called himmelhofwiese walk straight up there enjoy the view over vienna when you walk on for another 15 minutes you should come to a spot where you can turn left (in the wood) there is the most beautiful place around vienna i already grilled there. it is theoretically not allowed to make a fire, but practically nobody cares. just find yourself an already made fireplace so you dont have to damage the grass. ENJOY! :* -flo PS: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=himmelhofgasse+w...

I live at Seeschlacht, near the very tip of the Donau insel (which you can access from my house), so if you guys want to come out to our house, we can have a super grill here, and enjoy the lake and river while we're at it .. Interest? j. On Apr 9, 2009, at 11:35 PM, Michael Postmann wrote:

we were thinking about something like the place suggested by flo...
but your offer seems really interesting, not far, feasible and at least near the donau.... actually we're noticing that the part of people staying with their families/etc on sunday is even more bigger than expected... so we're evaluating also the possibility to move the grilling party on monday (like the italian tradition day of "Pasquetta") in order to give the possibility to them to join and to realize a bigger grilling ;) please give some feedbacks about the monday shifting idea... just to recognize if we should switch on that ...otherwise we will keep on the actual sunday grillin project summarizing locations: 1 - "himmelhofwiese" (a bit more far away but nice and more natural place ) 2 - "j's house" on donau tip, easy to reach and good for a super grill ;) 3 free barbecue locations near parks a bit outside wien -a Steinbruchwiese im Ottakringer Wald<http://www.wien.gv.at/wald/freizeit/images/steinhof.gif> -b Mittereckwiese im Schwarzenbergpark<http://www.wien.gv.at/wald/freizeit/images/mittereck.gif> -c Krapfenwaldgasse an der Höhenstraße,<http://www.wien.gv.at/wald/freizeit/images/krapfen.gif> Ivan P.S. Pasquetta : literally little easter, also called Easter Monday, is the day after spending the whole sunday with your own family parents and blabla...then going out on monday with a lot of friends in the country side grilling eating and drinking till to devastation...

12:00 AM = 00:00 in 24 Hour system, so i think you mean noon. But: It's Sunday, Easter Sunday, so what shops are you talking about? Maybe the Billa's at Praterstern and Franz Josefs Bahnhof are open, but I don't know. However, we should organize this a bit to prevent that 10 People stand around the grill with steaks and sausages and absolutely no bread, ketchup, mustard, sauce salad, beer, etc. So everyone should bring some stuff. So I will bring mustard, ketchup, mayonaise, sauces and stuff. Some hint's for things which should be on the list too: * Bread, bread rolls * Coal * Salad, Onion * Beverages * Beer * Potaos * vegetables (tomatos, peppers (paprikas),...) * ...let your creativity come out... But I know it's hard to organize that stuff on the Easter-Weekends because at least most of the shops are closed. lg nomike aka Michael PS: I vote for Jay's place too. Maybe it's not that easy to reach, than the Himmelhofwiese, but as he "lives" there, there should be more infrastructure (grill, fresh-water, toilet, etc.) On Sat, Apr 11, 2009 at 6:02 AM, Gloin <gudrun0@gmail.com> wrote:

Don't fret Kyrah, it is an open-ended invitation for those who want to explore the area and use our house as a base/HQ for the effort .. we'll do a much bigger 'proper party' where people have to behave themselves as we get into the swing of things here in summer - consider today an opportunity for getting out of the city and going for a walk in the sunshine, around the northern Donau insel, and having a bit of a grill at our HQ if you feel up to the effort. ; -- Jay Vaughan

I'm hoping there'll be a lunch-time bbq crowd that gets the grill on around 11/12pm, and around 1pm or so we go for a walk to the Donau insel/surrounding area (the little canal and the lake are nice as well) .. as far as leaving-time, its open. We only ask for a little consideration with Flynn, who is not yet 2 years old, and not getting him too excited around nap times (2pm/8pm) .. I'm happy to start a little tour around 1pm, and can include such highlights in the tour as the Seeschlacht lake, the Fish-farm on the canal (lots of nice private little beaches here), a walk to the northern tip of the Donau insel and so on .. I'd like to have a bbq/ grill going too. If people want to just use our house as a "touch-base HQ", in other words you leave your heaiver/more valuable stuff here while you explore the area for some nice sun-bathing in privacy or so, that is okay as well. Our house makes a good base for a little local exploration. j. On Apr 13, 2009, at 12:15 AM, Michael Postmann wrote:
